Gino Chiodo CV

1. Pietro Gino Chiodo arrived from Italy 1956, has lived in Port Kembla for 51 years.
Gino worked for the Electric Power Transmission (Industrial Company) at Port Kembla 1957/58 as assistant site engineer. 1970/71 at Newcastle EPT branch manager, back to Port Kembla he accepted a new promotion as administration manager. bought house at Port Kembla. Married Rosa Abate who give to Gino three children. two girls Giulia and Alice, last one in the family Orlando.



Gino left EPT 1979 to start his own business. Bought the oldest hardware of the South Coast and renamed Gino’s Hardware.

At the age of 66 he left the work force, retired and joined the TAFE, back to study after 40 years.
First the modern technology, informatics, computer. Day time class and at night class try to learn another language Japanese. Finally with the new millennium Gino started a full time course and 2003 graduated in Fine Arts with to major Paint and sculpture. Gino spend another year at the TAFE, 2004, to receive his Advance Diploma in paint with high vote.
Gino has been exhibiting since 2003 in many group show in Illawarra and in Sydney.



2008 – The 34th Camden Artprize, winning two awards.
a) second prize with an acrylic paint in the challenge section
b) third prize with a bronze sculpture in the opening section.
2006 - The 32nd Camden Artprize,. third prize (the first award received) for a bronze sculpture

2007/08 Gino was the driving force in the establishment of the ARTinPORT gallery in Port Kembla
Aim to help to change the image of the old Port Kembla to a new look with the hoping to be come an Art-
Town, and most of all to help young students and emerging artists into the hard world of contemporary art.
